During SynthFest France and Superbooth 23 at the beginning of the year, Kiviak Instruments announced their debut offering and the world’s first cloud-connected LoFi Sample-based Synthesizer.
The WoFi (a name inspired by Lofi and Wifi), represents a modern reimagining of iconic 80s and 90s keyboard samplers such as the Casio SK-1. Leveraging Kiviak’s cloud expertise the WoFi offers a new dimension to sampling and allows users to store, recall, and share presets with the community. It also comes with custom cartridges that allow for sample storage, however, Kiviak has mentioned that users will be able to manage samples in a variety of ways and not be locked into one.
WoFi aims to simplify sampling with an internal microphone and stereo input, enabling chromatic playback with 10-voice polyphony. It transforms samples through emulated players, offering a rich synthesis interface with envelopes, filters, and more. Additional features include the Texturer (a granular style reverb) for added sparkle, a 16-step SH-101 style sequencer, and portability with an internal battery, microphone, and speaker.
Check out WoFi on Kickstarter until Nov 16th for early bird pricing at $599/599€, with an estimated March 2024 delivery. Note; prices will increase to $799/799€ after backers receive their WoFi.
