Yamaha introduces Seqtrak, Mobile Music ideastation

In a surprise move, Yamaha announced the new Seqtrak Mobile Music ideastation. It’s not often that Yamaha releases something that can cut through the noise, although the FGDP-50 and FGDP-30 did get some attention. A welcome surprise is that the Seqtrak comes in two colorways, orange + grey and black + grey.

As many in the community have noted, the Seqtrak looks to be Yamaha’s answer to the Teenage Engineering OP-Z. It has that familiar screen-free brick format, battery-operated for on the go inspiration, has a dedicated app for further editing and a visualizer, mic and speaker, bluetooth, and is geared for performance. The Seqtrak also has parameter locking, but not sure how it compares to the OP-Z.

The OPZ measures 8.36 inches wide (212.5mm), and the Seqtrack comes in at 13-1/2 inches (343mm) wide, so this one won’t be as easy to toss into a pocket. It’s also worth pointing out that the OP-Z claims up to a 6 hour battery life and the Seqtrak at 3-4 hours.

Rough size comparison of the two devices.
