Teenage Engineering OB-4 unveiled in white

The Teenage Engineering OB-4 has a new white color variant available. The original lineup released in 2020 offered a black or red version, while the current lineup now includes black, red, white, grey, orange, navy, and ochre. The latter four are special-edition field colors. While the website says these are limited, it doesn’t specify how long these editions will be available.

There was also the luminescent orange Off-White™ OB-4, which made some noise being almost twice the price of the current offerings. This collaborative edition was a tribute to the late fashion mogul Virgil Abloh.

For those who may not be familiar, the OB-4 is a versatile, ultra-thin Bluetooth loudspeaker known as the “magic radio.” It boasts a surprisingly large sound for its compact size, offering deep bass and crystal-clear audio. Designed for portability, the OB-4 can play music via line-in, Bluetooth, FM radio, and a unique disk mode for experimental sounds. It has a built-in handle that doubles as a stand and promises up to 72 hours of FM radio listening or 40 hours via Bluetooth on a single charge. The OB-4 also features a motorized user interface for interactive sound manipulation, making it an innovative addition to any audio setup.

I have to admit, the OB-4 was something I thought I would use once in a while. It’s not as affordable as other portable speakers, however, it quickly became a part of my daily activities. It sounds amazing and is there when I’m tinkering with synths, or providing background music while working.

I also want to point out how sturdy it is. In a moment of clumsiness, I dropped my red OB-4 about three feet onto a carpeted floor. However, it hit a coffee table on the way down. To say I was impressed at the OB-4’s durability is an understatement. The OB-4 has more than justified its price, and I think the new color variants are a great addition.
