Description
The Woovebox, by SiliconFields in Australia, is a portable groovebox, synthesizer, sequencer, sampler, and drum machine all in one. This ultra-compact workstation was designed for fast digital music production, anywhere. The Woovebox aims to do more with less. Simpler music production, cheaper, ultra-portable, and all done with aggressive hardware and software implementation. It was developed with the ESP32, dual-core MCU, and was built from scratch using close-to-the-metal programming. This is a “style of programming that focuses on extracting every last drop of raw performance from the hardware, at the cost of easy development. The hardware, firmware and DSP code were hand-optimized in assembly over the course of three years, to perfectly balance frugality with power, audio quality and features.”
The Woovebox boasts a wide array of features, including a 16-part multi-timbral capability with 16 tracks, 16 synthesis algorithms, and 17 low-aliasing oscillator models. It offers virtual analog, FM, Super Saw, and more, with 2 oscillator models per voice and 10 filter types. This versatile instrument features 2 x AEG, FEG, multiple LFOs per voice, global and per-voice FX, and emulates vintage sounds. The Sequencer supports intricate song creation with polyrhythms, arpeggio, and pattern options, while the Sampler provides sampling and manipulation tools. The device is compact, pocketable, and rechargeable via USB-C, and it offers various connectivity options, including audio-in and MIDI. Its live playing mode and dynamic key-mapping make it a creative tool for live performances and sound manipulation.
